Last year, I went back to the UK and I was digging around for stuff and I found these childhood slippers.
I use to wear these slippers in my home in England, I loved the sound they made, that clacking sound. My sister and I would go up and down the stairs and make the clacking sound running up and down. I know my sister had the red pair and I had the green pair. I love that it says ‘FREE TOES’, that’s the name of the brand. It actually says ‘Made in Hong Kong’ you don’t see many things that say that anymore.
When I found them again I thought I should do something nice with them. They are still pretty intact and so I thought I’ll go to Hong Kong and have them framed.
As a little girl, you like pretty little things, they have little embroidered flowers on top and it’s got a gold braid that goes around. I don’t think they are fancy slippers, they were probably just bought at a market stall but of course, for us, they were really special because we didn’t have anything like that in the UK. It felt so special.
